Disruptions & Creations is an exhibition of appropriated imagery and collage that explores the frailty of visual representation. Using simple cuts, rips and paint smears the three artists transform the surface of the image whilst simultaneously leaving evidence of its original form. This building tension is further emphasized by inherently nostalgic qualities of the source material itself. Drawing on dated advertisements, illustrated books and magazine articles the artists purposefully select iconic imagery that resonate firmly with the audience, yet appear obscured, fractured and recontextualized. The new contexts begin to form an array of diverse meanings and associations within the images, highlighting the fluid nature of visual media.

Ben Giles is the kind of artist you wish you could invite over for wine (and maybe a collage or two.) This guy just keeps producing one visually stimulating piece after another! Follow him for a daily dose of beautiful, enigmatic collage.
