Viviane Sassen is a Dutch photographer who spent three years in Kenya as a child. Upon returning to the Netherlands, Sassen felt displaced, returning to Africa when she was sixteen, and working there ever since. In this series, Parasomnia, Sassen uses ambiguous people and places in Africa to explore her surrealistic childhood memories. The vibrant colours and jarring poses reflect Sassen’s vividly disjointed relationship with her own identity.
